tires?
« on: June 07, 2010, 02:21:16 PM »
All right everyone,  I am looking at sizing up to a 235/70/16 or a 235/85/16 on my 97 sidekick sport I am looking at putting about 3" of lift so I think either size should work.  I dont want to break the bank so I am looking for good but inexspensive tires.  so far I like the general grabber at's.  what do you all think of those?  any other sugestion for daily driver tires that can run trails and work good in the snow?

thanks
carl

most guys I roll with like the BFG's.  I know they cost a few, but they last a long time due to the light weight of our rides and they hold tight enough that if you get in a bad way you can take them down to 8 or 10 lbs and they will hold the bead and then bump back up to 20 or what ever you decide to run at with no issues.
96 Tracker LSI, 2.5" Pro Comp lift with cooper 30X9.5 STT tires.  A bit of trim and beating to make the front work.

i have heard nothin but good things about those at2 tires and when the tires on my truck wear out thats what im gonna get.  talked to a guy that had put about 25k miles on his (mounted on a pathfinder) and he said he couldnt even tell he had driven on them.  i like em bc they have the option for studs.  i had the BFG ATs and they were a great tire and got me out of places i shouldnt have been >:D but i dont have the $$ for them.

If you get the AT2s post what you think
if a bigger hammer, bigger tires or more gas doesn't help... your doing it wrong.

I appreciate the input,  it will be Jan or Feb before I get home to do the tires and stuff.  I am deployed until then so I can just order stuff and have it waiting to tear into.  I am most likely going to pick up the general at2's after reading the reviews they seem good all around and great in snow which is important to me where I live.  but once they are on I will do a full review.

My samurai has 31x10.5x15 Maxxis Buckshots on it and I love them. They've been on it for a few years now and still have well over half the tread with about 35k miles on them. The majority of which were put on it Making trips back and forth from NE texas up to Clayton Oklahoma in the summer heat to go play in the rocks. They clean out very well in mud and snow, and are reasonably priced. If you're going to get M/T's I would take them over the BFG any day of the week.

You may want to consider the new pro comp xtreme m/t's.  picked up some 31x10.5 a few weeks back.  got them siped.  they do extremely well on rocks.  thick sidewall too.  had them aired down to 10psi and did fine.   road handling is great and they are actually quieter than my old long trail r/t's.  You can't go wrong with a good set of bfg's either.
