Buying a New Samurai Check List?

What should I look out for while purchasing a Samurai to use as a daily driver (primarily) that can also hit trails on weekends?

look for RUST i go by the rule of thumb that its worth the 100 bucks or so to take it to a shop that you trust and have them look it over (if your like me and aren't knowledgable enough to doit yourself)

Rust is a pretty big problem with them. Rust seems to like most of the places with plastic touching it. Rockers, fenders, grill, windshield frame and many many others. It also had a lot to do with where you live.

There are common oil leaks all over the engine, more often than not, they are easily fixed.

Will it smog (again depending on where you live)

+1 for taking it to a shop if you don't know about them.
I have been around cars and always done my own service, rebuilt motorcycle engines, ect... but never around a 4x4 or a samurai.
I bought a basket case and didn't even know it for awhile until I took it into a shop and they started pointing out everything that was wrong.

Rust is a major issue. pull up the carpets and look at the INSIDE of the flooring, dont trust how it looks outside, check inside the wheelwells, pretty much the whole vehicle.

be prepared to fix oil leaks, change rubber lines all over, if need be, replace the master cylinder, see how the clutch cable works. if its tough to push in, or feels rough/jerky, replace cable, if you can, drive it around and if it doesnt feel right, just walk away.
