Wrecked Sidekick
« on: June 27, 2004, 09:37:06 AM »
Well, my 95 Sidekick that I owned for a total of only 5 months just got wrecked last week.  I was pulling out of a gas station and ain idiot haulin' ass down the center turn lane sideswiped me and totaled my kick.  I loved that little Zuki.Well, the good news is that they are finding the other driver at fault, so I should be getting another kick soon.  I am also consdering a Sammi, but I just fell in love my Sidekick and can't see myself driving anything else.  I hope that all of you have better luck than I did.

I've had very close calls with my Sidekick.  I have been extremely lucky these past 12 years.  I even survived an 80 car pile up in the middle of the 401 express way one icy night without a scratch.  The guy beside me wasn't so lucky.  He died when his Mazada hit the back of a flat bed trailer.   :-[

Just a suggestion, if the insurance company gives you a chance to buy the kick back, and you wanna buy a sammy, buy it back, use it for drivetrain parts and do the kicker3 setup from OTT with motor mounts from Petroworks and the modified harness and hybrid rear axle housing from Trailtough. That way you can have a sammy with a 16v 1.6 with an auto and all the low range gearing options in the world. With 33s, it would go down the freeway really good, around town would be sweet with the auto and power steering, and off road would be amazing. Just a thought. ;D

Gotta be careful with insurance buy backs. The cost is suppose to be what the insurance company would get on an auctioning block. Sometimes, they give a figure that they expect to be worth the vehicle when fixed, or what it'll take to fix, etc.

Find out what the numbers are for retail sale, the fixing of the kick, cost of the replacement, sometimes insurance companies will use the newspaper for costs, etc.

Sorry to hear of your troubles with the wreck. Now if it's still driveable, easy enough trail rig.....dented already.....

Sorry man.  I feel your pain.  But that could also be like the Insurance co paying you to build a Kick buggy dream machine.  I am now looing for a totaled 2dr kick with body damage (I've got the kick Buggy feaver).

How the insurance companies assess the buy back value, is they know how much a normal bigger salvage yard would give for the remains.
For example, I live in Idaho. The yards don't really care how built a sammy is. To them it's just an old Suzuki that they don't see oftem and presume is pretty much worthless. To them, an 87 sammy JX is worth about $250. I got in a pretty bad accident in 01 with a heavily built sammy, a fullsize Blazer pulled across my lane in front of me, no warning...his fault. I hit him, and long story made "Readers Digest", I flipped on end onto my roof. Destroyed my truck, hurt me pretty good. State Farm was the other guys carrier. They said the value of what was left, buy back, was about $250. Which is cool, cause I ended up getting about $6800 just for the truck, and I got it back. I was into it quite a bit for parts, and got most of the parts back. So far, the engine has been in 3 other sammies, including the lwb.
I think if you stick to your guns, you should be able to buy it back for $5-800. Hope that helps.

Any link to the Reader Digest article?   What issue?   Sounds like a horrendus crash,  :o  one worth of maybe being included in a Dukes of Hazzard episode.   Glad you are still with us.

My insurance said that they will not pay to fix the other guy's truck and that he is totally at fault.  I haven't really heard anything from his insurance, except a certified letter saying that they totaled out my kick and appraised it at $2900.  I only paid $3000 including TT&L, so that aint bad.  I plan on trying to get lost wages and medical bills, too.  I hope that they don't try to screw me.

It didn't literally make Rearers Digest, I just use that to refer to the short version.

You can just about bet that they will.  They are not their to just up and give you money, they are their to cover their client from liability.  Wish you the best of luck, hope they settle it out quick and simple, BUT I'd be prepared for the worst.  maybe even speak with an atourney.

IdahoLWB,   Funny stuff   ;) ;D ;)   I've never before hear of some one using that phrase like that.   I'd be interested in more details of pics if you could direct me to them.   Commuting on the HWY in my Zook on 35's scares me.
