1988 Samurai Carb problems
« on: July 13, 2010, 10:27:38 AM »
Hey folks, I have some problems with my samurai...I sunk it, the water in the river rose above the gas fill and I got water in the tank and gas lines....After dropping the tank and cleaning the lines and rebuilding the carb... new filter installed after flushing lines. I have an idle problem, when you first crank the sammie it runs fine...hit the throttle and let off it, it dies, turn on the ac and the engine revs to 2500 rpm, If you cut the ac off it will cut off...I am missing something, we had another sammie right beside this one with the cluster of vacuum lines as to be sure to put everything back right....

Thanks folks

There is some sort of vacuum actuated piston on the back of the carb that is supposed to catch the throttle as it comes back down that may not be working after it got wet.  There is a thread on it but I cannot find it.  I found on mine, it was doing the same thing, the previous owner had the warm idle screw out so far it was almost falling out.  A little adjustment and the problem is gone.

The high idle with the AC is (I think, never had AC on a sammy) the accessory idle up, also on the back of the carb, driver's side with a white plastic end on the plunger.  Just adjust that until the idle kicks up to 1000-1200 from what I have read.

I think ack has a carb adjusting link on his faqs.

There is one other thread I read while trying to track down my problem that mentioned a couple of plugs being switched around, but I don't remember which plugs they were.

Hope this helps.
