10 Bolt Rear to 12 Bolt Rear

Chris at Calmini assured me the guts of my 10 bolt will fit inside the 12 bolt. And William at Hawk S.S. said it would do so also. I have the Ring & Pinion gears from Calmini with Bearings and Crush Sleeve Kit too. I just want some reassurance from past performers here that I won't come across something that's gonna piss me off.
What should I expect? ? ?

Your good ;) I did the same in my 89 when I added the 5.83's. Had to use 12 bild out of my 97 Tracker, the goodies (locker etc) out of my 10 bolt , and the new gears from Calmini. I too was worried about all of it fitting together, but it did with no problems.

What exactly are the benefits of the 12 bolt rearend if you're using the 10 bolt innards?

Help, someone explain quickly please. I have a 12 bolt rear and Calmini 5:83s which I'm told have to go in a 10 bolt diff. I have the preload spacer and seals, what else do I need? Tomorrow I'm going to pick up a 10 bolt diff and then taking it to the transmission specialist. I guess by the time I have all this sorted out I will have some idea of what goes together.

I must respectfully disagree with this. In my experience the sidegears for the two third members are different. One of the problems I had in the begining was that I was using a 10-bolt sidegear in a 12-bolt carrier or vise versa (can't remember) and the shoulder that fits into the carrier is of different size. What happened was the sidegear was 'floating' around in the carrier. Sometimes you can miss the little things... Two broken lockers to find that out. :(  However, the coupling of the lockers to the factory sidegears are the same. So, if you keep the 12-bolt sidegears with the 12-bolt and the 10 with the 10, it will work out OK...

What Eric said should be a given, don't
mix parts that have worn together, even
swaping the side gears from left to right in
the same diff should be a no no, keep the
parts where they were, unless you have a
broken part, then you have to change it.

Great so I'm screwed blue & tattoo'd. What I'm after is to get the speedo to run faster and higher RPM's as of the moment it is low and 45 mph is top end. I WANT more!!!!!!!  So much to do and for what.... to end up a creek without a paddle? At this point I would do anything for someone else to build this truck's gearing. I'll wait on a future money-market stock to get higher before I sell and then I'll trailer it to Hawk Strictly Suzuki and let Rick finish this out.

vehicle you working on Sam or Kick ?

Definitely, in addition to this I believe there is a size difference in the "coupling shoulder" of the sidegears all other dimensions seem the same. What CZ can do is use the 12-bolt sidegears from that carrier and put that in with a locker or whatever into his 3rd member that was a 10 bolt.... That'll work...
