On my Tracker I can grab the top of the front wheel and watch the strut shaft move when I pull on the wheel. The shaft seems to be loose inside the strut body. No oil seems to have leaked out, so Im lost.

Yeah I still have it. I had a reserve lowered to $3000 and it was bid up to $2600 so it didnt sell.

The struts I have are the ones that come with the 3" Calmini suspension kit.

I'm guessing thats the way they are. The stock ones on my 97 did that also. I thought they were busted until I bought a new set and they did the same thing.

Mac had the same thing happen to his calmini struts.  They ride at the top of their travel all the time so when you hit a bump and the wheels try to drop the strut tops out and eventually breaks the end off. What we did to ours was flip the strut mount in addition to the strut spacer and it gives the strut a little working room. Also takes some of the harshness out of the ride of the calmini kit in the front. Ask Mac how he likes his ride now.

By the way, how are Calmini's struts compared to the 'stock' struts I replaced in my ride 7 months ago?

All you need to do to flip the mount around is press out the bolts (they are press fit in) then flip the mount upside down and sucure it with some new bolts/nuts.

Its something you can get done in 1-2 hours.

The calmini struts arent any longer than the stock ones.

They seem to be alright. They are air charged, not gas.  

People tell me that gas charged shocks arent even that great for 4x4ing. Cuz its too hard to fully compress a gas charged strut, so your front end wont flex to its full capability.

I had mine flipped when I first installed the 3" kit and kept over extending my CV's and trashing them. At full drop in the wheel turned say Bye to the CV's. My stock right side would slip out enough that it would break off the inner splines and the left side would pull last the retention ring and spin inside the cup.

Ya know, funny thing is Ive never wrecked a strut jumping. :-/ Only accidentily ramming into things...REAL HARD.
