what is getting a cam ground? do they just take a little off the lobes.
could you get a cam ground for more torque and HP?  could you get a cam ground for more power in the whole RPM range?

Shoot an email off to Geoff at Colt cams. He will be able to answer your questions better than me. This is the guy that did my cam and I'm very happy about the results. They simply grind off material in a certain way to change the power that a motor can deliver. His site is www.coltcams.com

Grinding the cam alters valve lift and duration, as well you may also weld a little extra material and then grind to get the characteristics you are looking for. It can alter where the torque/hp is developed in the rev range and how broad or narrow that power band is. You may also need to alter the valve springs. Cam timing can also shift the power band. You will also need to look at your ignition timing after making changes.

I agree with Mac. I put a high torque cam in mine with 2" exhaust(no cat) and put a K&N type cone filter on. I am pushing 32 x 11.5 tires on the highway up and down hills in 5th gear. It has been a huge gain and we are estimating HP at approx 120. My next step is to add a header when cash allows.

120 HP would be impressive.  Have you ever put it on a dyno?

I guess I've read these things start at 80 hp |removethispart|@ 5400 rpm and 94 lb.-ft. |removethispart|@ 3300 rpm.

If it got a 20% increase in HP from a cam, that'd be 96 HP.

If it got another 20% increase from headers and a free flowing exhaust it'd go to 115 HP.

If it added another 5% from an freer flowing open air intake element it'd go to 120 HP.

Hmmmm... those gains are probably on the high side and may not actually be cumulative but that IS impressive sounding.  On the lower end using 10%, 10% and 2%, it'd be 99 HP.  Not as impressive, but not bad.  There's still ignition upgrades too.

I guess I watch some of these TV Auto shows and they add free flowing exhaust, new intake, hi-power ignition, and cams and don't quite make a 20% gain in total HP for a lot of $$$.

It'd sure be nice to see one of the off road magazines or e-zines do some dyno testing of the 1.3L & 1.6L engines and then some road/off-road testing after some of these mods.

Yea, I know he's doing a piece on a Suzuki right now; that's why I kind of dangled the idea out there ;)  Like you suggested, maybe someone here who knows him can ask the question or at least point him to this thread ;D

ok, i bought one of these from RR.  it DID help the power a little bit, but in the winter with the lights on the the heater at full blast (i have no a/c) if the idle got real low from kicking it out of gear coming to a stop the belts would squeel and the lights would dim.  also it turns the water pump a lil slower so it ran a tad hotter.  if you really want one mine is only 4 months old and has a lil of the blue worn off, its yours for $20.  email me.

got bad news for ya.  i have a cali cam, header, hiflow exhaust, no cat, flowmaster muffler, k&n, ngk sparks, new wires, blaster coil, carb riser, el. fan and no ac and mine is pretty doggy on the hyway with 11.5 x 30s.  can only go 70mph with no wind on a flat in 5th gear.  i pretty much only use 5th like overdrive on the road.  o and mine is a lil heavy (tin top, bumpers & winch, tires)  and mine is an 8v.  just live with it or get gears, which is what im ganna do.... good luck. :-/
