ok so I have an 87 samurai with a 3 inch rocky road leaf spring lift and with 235/75R15's. I dont have this on the road yet but soon will and I have been told that with the stock gears that it will mayybe just go to 60mph. What gears do I need to change for higher mph? transfercase? differential? im so lost on this stuff guys please help and with what ratios to go with, I dont plan to do a bunch of offroading at the moment because I am a poor college student and im going to use this as a daily driver until I get out.

oh and are there any other cheap upgrades I can look at? I have done a short ram intake, headers, and im looking into doing a 2" exhaust if I can pass emissions here in salt lake city area.

also on of the best mods done on mine is the 1.6 16v engine. not a "cheap" mod but can be done on the cheap especially if you don't have to worry about passing smog (like we have out here in CA).

When I went up to 235's, I noticd a small power drop. I could still get it up to about 65 to 70 mph on flat ground but it just took a little longer. I also was using the clutch more to get it going and off road. I put 4:16 gears in the T-case. It is a world of difference. A little lower geared in high but way better in low. I also can use 5th gear on other than downhill.

For a DD I think a 1.6 litre and stock gears with 235's would be a great combo.

A 1.6 and gears would be better. But seriously, the gears would be easier and cheaper not to mention better offroad.

The red head that you meet at my house has  4.16 to 1. I will find out if he sold them  and if not how much.
