Been browsing this forum the last few weeks and pulled the trigger and bought one tonight. Couple buddies have lifted jeeps and Toyotas, so I wanted something a tad different. I am a newbie here and to the 4x4 world, but pretty mechanically inclined.

It is a 1987 Samurai and she needs work. Grabbed it for $600 and it has a backyard 4.3 chevy swap and toyota axles under it. I see a lot that needs to be done, but wanted to post some pics here and get some suggestions.

My buddies mainly ride semi rock terrain and some steep hills in the Maine woods. Mud is not a big thing for them.

oh man........ :o :o :o :o ??? ??? ??? :( >:( :'(

please if you do nothing else remove those front lift blocks YOUR LIFE IS MORE VALUEABLE THAN THAT!!!!!
It might actually be driveable then too. is this a off road only rig? (lets hope).
maybe consider complete disassembly and re-engineering the previous owners "work". trying not to sound too harsh but fixing the issues now will make wheeling alot more fun.
life is 10% what happens to you and 90% what you do about it!

My buddy just lifted his stock YJ, so I am thinking about swapping those leaf springs in. Going to do some research on what is all need to do that.

This is strictly an off road rig.

I would get a toyota steering box and hi steer  >:D

That tcase looks really low I would build a skid plate to protect it and you drive shaft and ya those blocks under the spring look scary get rid of them and buy some lifted springs if you need more hight :) the wiring looks a mess try and clean that up a bit the rig has potental good luck buddy

Thanks for the reply man.

Me and a buddy got the harness cleaned up today and it looks good.  That harness was a mess.  We also got running and I am very happy about that.

I got yj springs in the drriveway and some shocks coming, because those blocks are spell danger from what I hear.  I will have it SPOA YJ in a day or two.

Can you give me some info on the steerig box because the tires barely move on pavement. I was think  power steering of some sort. Have not searched on steering just yet because been doing a lot of reading on suspension.

I put an ifs toyota steering box in mine and works great and you can also go with hydro assist if the steering box is tapped for the hydro assit

K,

I got another steering box with the rig, but it was cut on the side. Doing some suspension work tomorrow, but after that it will be be steering and I gotta do something. It will not turn on pavement and has half a wheel turn of play on pavement. Thanks.
