Hunters with Trackers
« on: September 01, 2010, 01:51:37 PM »
I am looking for ideas on how guys have decided to mount their long guns.  I am in a 96 2-door Tracker, so as in my personal life, lenght is a problem.  If you have pictures of how you mounted rifles, that would be very helpful.

I don't have any pics... but I mounted and ATV hard case over the rear wheel well... then just unzip the rear window, pop open the back of the case and thee is the butt of your rifle.

Good tip.  I did not even think to see what the atv world has to offer.  I'll do some poking around.  The problem with my neck of the woods is too much snow and rain to keep the back window open.  I'm still in the hunt for a soft top, just have a "best top" hard top now.  Thanks Zig

I kept the back window in.. just unzipped it a little so I could reach in and grab the rifle. The ATV cases (side sling style) are usually weather resistant too....

Myself, I just keep the guns laying on the folded down back seat pointing forward.  Reach back and grab one, step out of the truck, load the gun, and drop your moose, deer bird or hare. I like to be able to get at them quickly when I'm "lazy hunting".

I love those early morning drives with a mug of coffee and an easy limit of grouse. I took out one of the back seats to make more room for my next deer back there. Still don't think I can fit a quartered moose + rack, but hey that's what pickups are for.

Good luck this year to all the Zukiworld hunters.

Hey Bush Buster... moose hunter huh? Any idea what it would run to have a moose rack sent to TN to put in my cabin?

Well it would have to be just the cost of shipping since here in Ontario the law prohibits selling any part of a game animal without some sort of license.  But I have never actually got a moose myself so I have no racks to give you.  It's a team effort to get a moose but only one person gets to shoot it so, yeah, I haven't been the lucky one yet... Of course if I get one this year that first rack would be all MINE!!  However, I may be able to get my hands on one for you (some of the old timers around here have garages full of the things) and if I do I willl gladly send you one.  Some places do sell them though, there's some on ebay. Would you want an old weathered one?

I had myself and two passengers in my 2dr and gear space was LIMITED.  Having the LSi made it great though...only half of the rear seat was folded down.  I carried a hitch rack for stuff, but couldn't get my back door open.  So when we hit the trails I put the rack on my front receiver for easy access to the back hatch.
Kolpin and Plano make nice ATV scabbards.  I had a few on my utility quads a few years back.  A hard case, with a soft rifle case inside.  I don't have much headroom (6'1") so mounting them overhead isn't possible for me, they usually lay across the back seat area

A full moose on a tracker!! :o  Dang I was kind of questioning a full elk, guess it shouldn't have a real problem with a measly little elk.  I like your mounts, I think that will work for me.  The time of year and weather here is  a bit cold to keep the window open and I have a hard top, so either it is open or it is closed.  Thanks for all the input guys, I'll add pics when I get them in, I just put about 6 of them on craigslist not even thinking.  Be safe this season, and who ever gets the first kill should start a topic showing the picture of how it fit or couldn't fit into their tracker, might be fun.

Not a wuss, just meticulous.  Sounds like a small tarp is just what you need to add to your list of possibles to carry.  My top leaked and the carpet smelled like wet dog, so I no longer have carpet.  Is your rack similar to Noisey's?  His looks very clean.

Nope.  Harbor Freight special! all aluminum
I'm probably going to add a mesh floor to it before this season, to help enclose things.  And maybe some mesh to the sides.  Maybe some taillights (when it's loaded, it nearly covers my stock lights, not good).  Maybe a hinged lid.  We set up some camping chairs around it and it is actually the PERFECT height to sit around and use it as a tabletop if we added a lid.
Hell, might as well make my own if I'm gonna add that much stuff to it!
Noiseyjack's is SWEET, how it tilts up.  Noisey, did you make that, or buy it?  If you bought it, please let us know the brand name.
Instead of a tarp, which sometimes tarps rot and end up leaking through, we'll just grab a half a roll of some 6-mil plastic sheeting my dad uses for roof coverings and such.

Who on this forum said they pulled out their carpet, put bedliner all over the inside, then re-installed the carpeting over the lined floorboards?
