idle control valve

idle control valve

I have a 92 sidekick. I was blowing fuses, when I unplugged the ICV it stopped blowing them. Ran good for 2 months. Now the idle stays around 1500, sometimes drops to 1100, sometimes stays around 1800. Is it the valve? Can I use a used one? $330 bucks is a bit steep for a valve. Help!

Measure the resistance of the coil in the ICV, from memory it should be around 60 Ohms. If it looks OK then you may have a grounding problem or a faulty ECU.

Thanks!! First, how do I clean it, and how do I ground it? Not very good at mech stuff!!

There should be some kind of ground lead from the valve or the valve case itself could act as a ground. You might want to check Ack's Fac's for info and maybe a glance at a manual. Electrical Parts Cleaner for electrics, I perfer CRC, and Brake parts Cleaner for just about everything else. House brand will do. Don't get either in yours eyes, or on your skin if you care about it.
