Just put the tranny in, it's not shifting till around 4100 rpm. Are there any adjustments that can be made? or any other fix?

What year? what engine, 3 speed or 4 speed trans???

1995, 3 speed auto

Could be your vacuum modulator is not connected or the vacuum line is kinked, crushed or disconnected from the back of the intake manifold. The modulator may be malfunctioning. Why was the trans out to begin with? They will eventually shift via the governor if not controlled otherwise, like with the modulator.

This is a different transmission, the old one went out. I checked the vacuum line as well as I could, there is possibly one place that it could be pinched but not sure, may need to investigate this further. The old tranny shifted at an acceptable rpm but slipped like hell. This one sat outside my garage for quite a while, thought maybe it would get better if I drove it more, but it seems to shift at the same rpm still. May replace the modulator next.

If it sat outside for awhile, it may have got moisture inside, or even full blown water. You may need to pull the pan and clean and flush that thing.

I pulled the dipstick, rolled it over and drained it. fluid looked good coming out so I just filled it back up. Thinkin though that maybe the modulator may be bad. Gonna swap it with the good one off the other tranny today. will post results later...

Ok, I hang my head in shame...

swapped out modulator, still no shifty.

Really go to looking and couldn't find the other end of my vacuum hose, then the light bulb lit up. It should be on the intake somewhere dumbass. looked around a second and realized I had hooked up the vent line to the vacuum line. It was approximately the same length and all and just didn't catch my attention at the time. hooked it up and guess what? shifts just fine.

I kind of had that problem with the turbo, pressurizing the vacuum modulator
would sometimes make a 1 to 2 shift go neutral, causing an over revved engine
and the tach bouncing off of 7000 RPM
