Weber top end
« on: November 04, 2010, 09:25:02 PM »
Hello everyone, I got a 88.5 Suzuki Samurai. I was wondering if a weber would help improve my top end on the interstate. As it stands right now it will top out around 60-65 mph wide open and the mpg are awful. My sami is my daily driver so I need more top end 70-75 mph would be great would this carb do that for me? Also its a stock 1.3L engine with 235 tires. Thanks in advance.

You might look into an exhaust first and see how that helps, this
of coarse if you still have on the stock system, also the cat might
be getting plugged and adding back pressure.

Look into a header and a 2" pipe system

You need gears or smaller tires. Or a bigger engine.

Unfortunately, this is correct.  The Sammi engine from the factory has 64hp and 74lbft of torque.  It was never intended to cruise at 80mph uphill, it was intended to be a recreational vehicle for little jaunts around town and crawling up the side of a brick wall.

In order to get better highway drivability, you'll need to put a different engine in it (1.6 Track/Kick 8v or 16v are the most common) or like Lv2fsh said, gear it.

Even if you gear it, it'll still suck on acceleration and uphill at speed.  The tires have nothing to do with it since you are already running small enough ones.

With all the mods, carbs, intake, head work, exhaust in the world, the 1.3 will never be a highway engine.  Sorry, just love the sammy for what it is or throw away the engine :-)
