I broke something MAJOR!
« on: June 13, 2004, 12:27:00 AM »
Went to the beach saturday and while we were there driving along the surf, came along another Sidekick (stock) trying to pull a Chevrolet Suburban out of the wet sand to no prevail. Being the nice guy I am; my wife offered me to help since my toy is bigger and better than stock. We unhitch the stocker and the dude bailed out on us leaving his nylon tow strap behind at that ...Fuggin' school kid.

Well anyway I hooked up and while I was doing so in between swells the Chevy's front end is starting to collect sand pockets at the wheel furtherest from the water. I tugged on the Suburban once and knew it would be a hard pull to get the suction broken on the front wheel.

I did a wheelie stand (like a tractor at the end of it's pull at a Truck Ralley) and came back down with forward motion and the Chevy Suburban in tow I pulled it to the harder dry pacted sand and unlatched the strap, didn't notice anything funny while doing so... We bid our goodbyes and carried on through the day with no worries.

Even drove home no problem...

UNTIL we pulled in the driveway there was a steady oil stream from the street to my drive and pooling oil where it sat. From close  scrutiny and inspecting I found a crack at the back of the motor from the heads down to where the engine meets the tranny. My wife said look at the brightside it got us home with no problems.

SO I guess monday I will give Hugh Reynolds a call and order another engine since they're cheap and grow on trees at http://www.reynoldsmachine.com/suzuki16eng.htm. Just more work for me....hummm seriously thinking of the down time....

That was some serious tork, could have been a defective block. The drive line breaks before the engine block due to sheer structural mass.Air pocket in the casting? Good luck going through engine change myself ,new rebuild parts came in at last       MUTANT ZUK

cz,

you seem to have good luck, and bad luck. i'm sure you still have some cash left over from your winnings to put a new engine in. now might be a good time to try the gv v6  ;) still it sucks to finish your lift, and then break something but it's all part of the game.

Oouch. Man that sucks A--
Is there an engine to tranny support not installed? That might be a thought. A lot of engines seem to have those.
Renyolds only have 8 valves? I checked there sight. I'm looking at replacements. Mine is Smoking at start-up more than I like.

We'll see just how much HI-PO I can get with an 8v call me stupid but I just LOVE that motor.

I'm down to 15,000 free spending cash the rest is invested so I really don't know as of the minute.

But yes it will be HI-PO all the way, might as well with all I have in it. We'll just call it a good investment.

As for the motor it was new one year ago 2 months past it's warranty.  :-/

Well, honestly it sounds like the o-ring on the back of the head for the distributor failed, plain and simple. Take a very close look at the back of the head, above the bell housing. If that is wet with oil, it is your problem.

I was going to say that with that tractor pull,
you must have landed hard, might of broke
the 90* distributor drive and be leaking from
there, the O-rings (I don't think) leak that bad,
but a housing might
