IT PASSED!! -- AGAIN
« on: June 08, 2004, 06:05:01 AM »
FOR CURRENT UPDATE SCROLL DOWN 7 POSTS.

Since I bought my Tracker last October I have been worried about if it would pass emissions or not.  Last winter it was idling at 1500 rpm in gear and 2500 in park.  I have that mostly under control, but that made me have doubts about it passing.  I got my notice in April and had until the end of July to get it tested.  Last week I put in some 'Guaranteed to Pass' in the gas and drove 150 miles.  After reading their website and a few other forums I decided to have the Tracker tested today.  I was also nervous about if it would pass the gas cap test because the filler tube has some holes in it.  I thought it might fail a visual inspection if the tester looked down the filler tube.  Well, it passed with the following numbers

Test                    Allowed              My Tracker
HC                      .408                   .400
CO                      6.318                 3.032
CO2                    No requirement 106.2

I now have 2 years until the next test.  Now I feel like I can do some mods to it.  I will probably do 235/75/15 tires and paint it camo.

I'm doing my test this week also.  I have never failed since we began testing in Ontario.  In few more years I won't even have to test anymore, because it will be over 20 years old.

Good luck, what are you doing to it to prepare for the test?

Nothing.  I have never had to do anything.  I tune my own engine once a year.  New plugs, cap and rotor, fresh oil and filter every 5000kms, new air filter and that's about it really.

I passed again.  A simple yearly tune up and smart driving habits go a long way with a Zuk.

The time for my next emssions test came due again.  Last time it barely passed so I was very nervous about this time.  I took it in a few weeks ago and they couldn't test it because the tailpipe had come rusted out of the muffler.  A buddy hooked me up with a local Merlins who replaced the exhaust from the cat back for $150.  I took it back expecting it to fail, but praying it would pass.  The test took much longer than other cars were taking and they were reving the heck out of it.  It did pass!!!  The reason it took so long was that it failed on a first attempt, so they do a retry.  It passed the second attempt.  Before the test I ran a bottle of 'Guaranteed to Pass - Emissions Formula' through a tank of gas, then changed the oil and refilled the tank.  I don't know for sure if this stuff does anything but I've used in on my last 3 testing of older cars and they have all passed.  The numbers this time were very different from last time.  The test must be different.

Test                    Allowed              My Tracker
HC                      1.018                  .493
CO                      17.655                17.503
CO2                    No requirement   442.5

Last Time

Test                    Allowed              My Tracker
HC                      .408                   .400
CO                      6.318                 3.032
CO2                    No requirement 106.2

So last time my HC were at the limit, now they are fine but my CO's are at the limit.  What's it mean?

Gratz! I hear a lot of valve noise on mine, so I think I need to adjust the valve lash before I go for my test...
