2.0 4 cylinder swap
« on: December 25, 2010, 01:40:06 PM »
I found a 2.0 out of a 2001 tracker with a 5 speed 2wd trans. for a good deal, but didnt keep the wire harness or ecm before he got rid of the car. I got a sami that I might want to put it into. I would probably just use the 2001 tracker 5spd. and hook it up to the tcase. I also have a 95 2wd tracker that I might want to put it in. I want the 95 to be 4x4, so I have a 1.6 8valve trans and tcase that I could use or I could use the 2001 5spd. and custom mount my spare sami case. I see TT has a complete kit for the sami for $1200, but I dont have the ecm or wiring. I dont really want to spend that much on it. could I use use a different intake off a 1.3 or 1.6 so I could make it carbourated or use the 1,6 16 valve fuel injected intake? could I change heads to a 1.3 or 1.6. how easy is it to find a 2.0 harness and ecm? what do you guys know???

The 1.3 & 1.6 are what are known as "G-series" engines, the 2.0 is from a different series - the J series, which includes a 1.8 litre J18, the 2.0 litre J20 and a 2.3 litre J23 - the dimensions are different, so you're not going to be able to swap heads, manifolds etc.

Additionally - the J series engines have significant differences in the engine management electronics to the older G series - they use a distributorless "coil-on-plug" ignition system, making it a little more challenging to convert them to carburettor - you'd probably have to go to a third party engine management system

When you say "etc", this DOES include the trans as a NON swappable into an older model, correct?

I think the 2.0 will bolt to the 1.6 trans, but the 2.0 flywheel is to thick to fit and the 1.6 flywheel does not bolt up to thecrank, so the 1.6 flywheel needs to be re drilled so it bolts to the 2.0 crank.

talk to Brent at trail tough that's kind of his specialty. I'm helping a buddy put a 2.0 in a 4 door kick right now too. I don't know why this series of engine doesn't get more notoriety it seems like the very best swap too me. and I think were gunna boost it! >:D

well hopefully a build thread gets started soon. it going in the white 4 door you can see in some of the pics of my diesel from hell build thread, its a buddy's rig and he just has not started a thread yet, I will tell him to get on it!

BTW I think its the best option for keeping it true zuki. I'm still going Audi power (might regret it)

Alright already... :P... I will get aftter my buddy to do it, it's his rig, also last I talked to Sean from aftermarket4x4 he was not making motor mounts for the swap until he had enough orders. We just built our own.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me happy that I got a floor style drill press for Christmas.  :-*   The link stated that the 2.0 is in the 99-02 Tracker, right? THAT ought'a be fun to find here in Full Size Truck Land... Stupid hillbillies only driving BIG trucks...  Oh, wait a minute, that includes me...  :o

2.0 is in 99 to 2003 I think. can anyone find me a harness and computer. I guess to do the swap you need to start with the whole wiring system for the  2.0

Hey, jawman. Get in touch with the folks at Trail tough. They can tell you what you need to get this going. I sent them a E-mail last night concerning doing this to my 90, and they said that all I need to send them is the computer harness for the 2.0l.
