New Tracker Owner...Make a decision for me.

Hi there.

I bought a 1992 Tracker off of a friend (because she gave me a good deal) but now I am interested in working on it a bit for a hobby and to fix some things on it. I decided that I wanted to make it look a little more manly. Other than taking off the pink pinstriping, heheh, I want to put bigger tires on it BUT I don't want to mod anything on it as of yet. No lift, no fender trimming...just stock. My question to you all is this..."What is the absolute biggest rim/tire combo I can put on a stock '92 Tracker with a 1.6L 8-valve motor, without rubbing or burning out clutches and so on?"

And yes, I am doing it for looks more than anything, but at some point I will do some minor off-roading.

I hope that's enough information... thanks for any and all advice

P.S. This forum rocks.. been reading it for a week now... nice pics and tonnes of info

Have a look at 235/75R15's on 15x7 rims, should fit fine. The 30x9.50's can rub depending on brand.

This is mine with 235/75-15's on factory wheels. No rubbing at all.



I went to a wider wheel with the same tire and have some rear fender rubbing while off-road, on the street it's fine. I do have RRO Coil Spacers installed and will be doing their body lift soon.

Did the shop that put the tires on complain that the tires were to big for the width of the stock wheels?

Ya, most shops whine and complain about
the wheel/rim combo, you should see the
33 12.5 swamper I have stuffed onto a stock
rim  ;D  Just tell them do it, or you take your
tire business elseware.

I would say give the trucklet a little lift so it
don't look too low, 1.5" spacer rear and 1"
front would look a little bigger but not cost
much at all, you don't even need to change
shocks or struts, or add strut spacers to the
tops of the struts, but if you wheel hard traction
will be a little harder to get on the flexy stuff

Thanks for the replies. And zukipilot, I know... I am already very tempted to go crazy with this thing...The one that really got me tempted is ProjectTwin's red Tracker. Not only because of how it looks, but it looks like a tonne of fun to do. I am on a serious mechanical trip right now. I just sold my condo after 4 years, now in a house, the freedom I have now is amazing... no strata council to tell me what not to do... So boys, drop your trucks off at my place and I'll change all your oil just for the pleasure of doing it.
I get to be a man again, yes!

They complained both times, they said the stock wheels were too small, the wagon wheels were too big and they we wrong both times. ;D

Its not a Pink Tracker, is it? ;D
Even my Off-Road shop complained about putting my 32"s on. Then they rubbed as I left ;D Trimmed fenders when I got home ;D

No, it isn't a pink Tracker... It's silver but the Tracker sticker is orange, but almost pink... so the people at work like to bug me... one guy in particular named it the barbie tracker and asks me if I go to Toys R Us for parts... but he drives a Jeep YJ, so with his level of thinking I see it like this.... Him and I both drive girly vehicles... the difference... I paid $2800, he paid $30,000... with the money I saved I could pay someone to abduct him and force him to get breast implants... Who's the girl now Derek? ! ? ! ?

ever guy i know with a jeep that has less than $6000 worth of aftermarket lift and tires not including the price of the HEEP. always ends up behined me hooked to a tow strap. here r a few pics. 3" body 1 1/8 coil spacers homemade snokle 31 swampers with room for 33's

Looks good, looks good.... I am new to the scene but I keep reading about coil spacers... it looks relatively easy to me, is it? And, do you HAVE TO BUY coil spacers... or could they be made at home? And do you just throw in coil spacers with stock springs? I am guessing you would and that would be the point right? Oh well, that's enough questions. Got any free answers?

coil spacer r very easy to install if u can cahnge a strut u can install a coil spacer. they r very inexpensive also. my total lift cost me $230. that is 4 1/8" total mine ende up being lik 4 1/2" body though. for tech help u can check out this site.

tires r a personal preferance super swamper factory is right down the road fron my house so i got my 31" LTB's for $325 that included tax, mounting, and balancing
