Best High Steer? - Samurai
« on: January 27, 2011, 01:57:16 PM »
There are several hi-steer products on the market, and I'm about ready to change my z-link for a hi-steer.

LRO - Stage 1 and 2 for ~$365
RRO - Stage 2 and 2 for ~$385
TT - $279

Which one?  I plan on doing the CJ/YJ swap soon too.  Right now I have SPOA with RUF.

Sky stuff is what LRO sells I think.

I'm just gonna do a CJ swap and leave my RUF on.  From what I've read, it's the best setup aside from a coil conversion. The YJ is nice and all, but I'd rather drop that coin on a roll cage and/or a swap.

Looks like Petroworks doesn't have any z-bar eliminators at the moment.  I'm leaning that way unless I hear otherwise.

Calmini high steer kit has more mounting points and may be stronger.

Thats just the price you pay for having a stronger steering arm.

I have the Sky cross-over kit.   It keeps the stock lower tie rod so it's not a full cross-over but it also saves you a hundred bucks.

I've never had an issue with it.  The tie rod will bend before the steering arm will break.

Low range is coming out with a new kit that is better than anything out there, hold out until then.

i have Sky's full high steer works great. only thing id that i noticed my turning radius went to shit after i blamed it on the bigger tires (im turning 33's) until someone else said the same thing and he didnt increase tire size. i dont know if it because of the shorter drag link or what? also what make a kit better than anything else in terms of strength, like drone said a tie rod will bend be4 and cast aluminum steering arm will break. Also if you use Sky's set up a drag link off of an FJ80 axle is perfect length for the high steer tie rod

I just asked sean about the steering they are working on developing and his response is this.

"We have had one installed for about a month on dans
We have made a few changes to the arms and are trying to decide on machining or forging them
the first prototype arm cost $350"

hopfully the cost will come down, I am going down this week and will take alook at it on dans samurai and if I have permission from them I will post it up along with more details if you want them.

Usually the steering going to pot is caused by the need to install a panhard bar.  The suspension will have to much flex and soak up the steering.  I can be wrong though, as reasons may vary.
