There is an Asuna Sunrunner sitting in a back yard less than a mile from me. It is a white two-door with a removable hard-top and, I believe 4WD. The body looks pertty good but it has been sitting for at least 3 years. Pontiac Canada only offered them in 1992 through 1993 and they came from CAMI.
Using equivalent Sidekick info at Kelly Blue book and assuming 80k on the odometer, I came up with a ballpark figure of $1650.
Any guesses on price-lowering problems that may appear with a 1.6 that has been sitting for that long (or longer)? Timing belt problems? Waterpump problems?
Yeah, that one has been sitting for a long time. I checked into it a year or 2 ago...but never got ahold of anyone, so I didn't ever follow up on it.
I figure there is a reason it has been sitting....engine problems, more than likely.
Going to be hard to tell from looking, but you know about crank keyway issues....an expensive fix, usually.
Figure the fuel has probably "gunked" the fuel system up. The fuel pump will likely need replaced, the tank will probably need cleaned (or at least drained) and the fuel lines will probably need blown out/cleaned out.
Hopefully, it had/has coolant in it and not just water...otherwise there could be block, radiator, heater core, etc. issues. If it has no coolant/water in it, I'd be leery of that too.
If the engine was good when parked, it could be stuck now. I'd make sure it turns over freely.
I'd figure on replacing the water pump and timing belt, just to be on the safe side. Also, the plugs, wires, cap, rotor....you know, basic maintenance stuff.
I'd look over the wiring close too.....mice like to chew on things that have been sitting for a long time.
Check the oil too. If there is none, then I would be leery of the engine condition, no matter what they tell you about it. If it is overfull, it could have water/coolant in it that has settled out (headgasket or cracked block). If it is black, then you know the maintenance schedule that was used (poor and not often enough).
Of course without being able to start and drive it, you have no way to validate the condition of the engine, tranny, tcase or axles. Could have rods knocking (some people don't know what they sound like, if you ask), tranny could need rebuilt (again, most people won't know what whining/growling bearings sound like...or if it is an auto, it may not shift right), etc, etc.
A good title probably isn't an issue...but I'd make sure they have a valid US (preferably MO) one.
