Samurai lift-steering question
« on: February 24, 2011, 02:00:50 PM »
I'm a new convert to the 4x4 world and just bought my first Samurai a couple months ago.  I live in rice country so my rig will be spending it's time pretty equally between the highway and our lovely Blue Gumbo.  Now onto the stupid/newbie question.  I've ordered a Calmini SR kit and some 30x9.50 M/T's.  I'm wanting to add on some OME 1.5" lift springs for ride quality and to replace the mix-and-match leafs the previous owner slapped under it.  From what I've gathered 3" of lift is about the max on what the factory shocks and steering can handle.  My question is will I be ok running the SR and OME's or is it new shock/drop pittman arm time?

First yes get a full set of springs matched for your rig.  Safety first!!!!  You die, No more fun for you.  Seriously you should really consider leafs designed for your Samurai.
If PO had mixed leafs, are all the shocks the same  ???  Check'em all.  If they too are mixed, ..........
With 2" (SR) and 1.5" (leafs) I would suggest a drop pittman arm and shocks.

If you haven't installed the SR don't!!!!
Calmini's 3.5 SR kit has everything you got and what you want in a single package.  The kit includes new 1.5" leaf springs, complete shackle reverse kit, drop pitman arm, driveline spacer, sway bar links, bump stop extensions, CALMINI shocks, polyurethane bushings, hardware and complete instructions.  I'd call them up and have them send ya the rest of what is in the full kit.

I have the 3.5" SR kit on my Samurai and love it.  I also run 30"x9.5"MTs on 15"x8" wheels.

Good point.  Running our SS1575 Shackle Reverse in conjunction with a lifted spring would require longer shocks, steering correction as well as brake lines/driveline spacers (highly recommended).

I have the Calmini SR and the OME springs. Drop pitman, longer gabriel shocks, new bushings, extended sway bar hangers, stock brake lines and love the ride. I commuted with this rig approx. 100 miles a day. With larger tires, you will have to address the back space on your wheels.
