Fuel pump questions

I have an 88 samurai with the stock carb and was going to put a fuel filter in and discovered it had a electric fuel pump and a block plate put on the head where the manual pump once was i was wondering if this was fine or needs to go back to the manual pump?

You might want to check the pressure to make sure it's not over like 3 PSI,
and you may want to carry a new in the box spare mechanical pump for
backup, but other than that it should be fine

it has was looks like an regulator screwed into the end of it and ill still check it but would the mechanical pump be safer

I switched over to an electric fuel pump, I prefer them to the manual.  Just go down to the local auto parts store and go to the section with the chevy engine chromey bits.  They should have an adjustable fuel regulator you can install to the 3PSI that wildgoody recommended.

good idea on the spare. make sure you have the push rod also.
'89 kick w/little motor, still got pieces of jeff's pucks, stan's sticks into 4.24:1 tcase, 31x10.5x15's, rear lockrite, kick power steering, some radios(kj6esv), bmw seat, other changes just because. done on the cheap.

Also, I put a 0-10 psi fuel pressure gauge in the supply line (Fuel Rail) between 
the pump & Carb.  (Cheap; $27.00 including UPS |removethispart|@ Summit Racing)
DON"T GO BY THE DIAL NUMBERS ON THOSE STYLE FUEL REGULATORS!!

You also can now fine tune for elevation changes.

A carb will not compensate for elevation changes with pressure from the fuel pump.

However an EFI can be fine tuned with some pressure changes but it compensates
more from input from the O2 sensor

I understand that the float controls the fuel level,

I have found that if you keep it at about 2 psi, it runs best.
I also have an electric low pressure fuel pump.

I don't have to mess with it hardly ever, but I have found that on hot days, |removethispart|@ higher elevations,
I have to bring it down a bit.

Thanks Guys Lots of good info ill go pick that up tomorrow after work. Is there anyone here that lives in NC that wouldnt mind giving me some tips on how to get my sammy running right i really would like to start driving it.

Yes, vapor lock could be fixed with fuel pressure, but as far as brain cramp,
I just blame it on "it's late and I'm tired"  ;)
