performance stuff
« on: March 15, 2011, 07:43:36 PM »
I have a 94 sammy that is all stock..I would like to get some more power out of it but I dont want to swap engines right now( it runs to good and has only 75000 miles). I was thinking of header, different air filter and maybe a cam..Any thoughts. Is it worth the money? Has anybody done this and would you do it again? Thanks Dan

Are you still running the stock exhaust?  How much more power are you looking for?

A 2" exhaust would be my first modification.  I haven't run into a car yet that didn't like a bit more room to breath.

Yes Im running the stock exhaust..I was thinking of changing it if i put a header on..Im not really looking for a huge increase in horsepower, I know that would probably best done with a engine swap, Im looking just for a little more. Im just wondering if what im talking about changing will make any kind of improvement or will it be unnoticable..

Header, K+N air filter, 2 " exhaust all the way with a freer flowing turbo type muffler and cat ( if you have one.) Nice performance gains. Not huge, but better throttle response and freer revving.
The usual stuff, and 2nd generation Air to liquid intercooled TURBOCHARGER

yup short ram air intake + 2" exhaust are cheap firsts. when I got my 87 samurai I got a short ram air intake for it and replaced the exhaust from behind the cat with 2" pipe and I got an aero turbine muffler on ebay for cheap(sounds really great too). some things people do to is take off there engine fans and swap in electric fans on switches so the engine isnt working harder to turn that fan(i was going to do this but mine never really kicks on here in the salt lake area). Also if you have an a/c but dont use it take it off and run a shorter belt on the engine so its not having to work to turn that extra item. For future mods you might do look into gear swaps that you can do and keep an eye out for things like sidekick front diffs that are at wrecking yards for 1/2 off days and such.
