My front wheel bearings on my 1991 geo tracker need to be replaced and I can't find a lock nut socket that is small enough to fit the lock nut that goes over the bearings. Does anyone know where I can buy one or is there some trick to getting the lock nut off? Any help you can give me would be great. I'm out of ideas and I know there has to be a way to get the lock nut off

You have to remove the 4 screws first, then a Chisel can be used to
back off the nut

Tighten and turn it and keep going until it is tight enough to not
show any movement on a dial indicator, then set the screws to
hold it, you can go tighter to the next screw hole, that should be
good, but you could try and have a socket made to tighten or find
one that could be modified to fit

There is a torque value for that lock nut, but as wildgoody says, the socket used to obtain that value is not cheap!

Unfortunately, shipping is costly from the UK making it about the same as something found in the US.

Most folks (except your local Suzuki or Chevrolet dealer) use the method mentioned by wildgoody.

I got everything apart. I was looking at new wheel bearings and I can't figure out if what I'm thinking about buying comes with both the inner and outer races and bearings or if I need to buy 4 of them. You get matching races with bearings, you may need to buy 2 outer
and 2 inner bearings, but all the pieces will be included

No.  A complete assembly includes all the parts needed to replace bearings - both inner and outer along with the races - for one wheel hub.

You need to buy two sets to rebuild both front wheels.

Always replace all the bearings and races when you rebuild a hub assembly.

a press or if your ghetto a hammer just dont fuck up the hub

If you don't have a press you can heat the hub with a propane torch and then use a socket that fits the edge of the race well and try hammering it out. I'd rather see you take it to a shop and have them press out the old and press in the new.

I'm with bentparts on the "use a press to get them out and in" method.

Quick (relatively speaking), easy and you don't "F" anything up with a misplaced hammer blow.

A 91 tracker should have 2 races in the wheel hub, so one race has to come out one side, the other race the other side.  So you can't use a socket and press them out together.  I have used a hammer and a punch to remove and install lots of bearing races.  Never screwed up a race when the punch slipped (races are made out of very hard material).  A brass punch is even better than a steel one....won't come as near damaging the races if you slip off.

I too got to know the method to change the wheel bearings. Its easy to change but very hard to find a match..
