The engine in my 97 is dieing and I have a 96lsi that im going to kill for my smurf... Just wanted to see if anyone has done this and if there is anything odd I should know about before I start. Oh it's a 16v in both but the 97 is auto and the 96 is 5speed. Any advice is welcome being as I have never pulled a tracker engine (a vw bug and chevy blazer lol).

Oh also I wanted to look into swaping the auto for the 5speed anyone know if I can?

Those 2 engines are the same, there may be some minor sensor changes,
the only one I am aware of is there is a crank position sensor on some models
but I think it started with the 96 so it may be no big deal, look at the front
of the engine just behind the crank pulley for a U shaped edge on the oil pan
and a wire going in there, that is where it lives.

As far as the Manual / Auto swap, you will need to swap computers to make
the trans shift correctly but on the plus side, you have both complete vehicles
so all the bits are there for the swapping, so unless you break something no
parts should be needed for the conversion

Thanks ill need the luck lol I have pulled them but never put one back in and don't see anyone helping me anytime soon so I'm on my own.

I have a hunch if you asked you would have more help than you could imagine.
