ok, so best lift for on road
« on: June 01, 2004, 02:48:42 PM »
c'mon, face it there a re alot of people that like the brute lifted "look" but will rearly ever take their lifted Zuk off-road.
I personally have beat on and trailed all but 1 of my 6 suzuki 4x4's i've owned over the last few years.

but my current one?

not gonna happen.  it's a spottless 1995 LSi 4x4.  not a stick of rust, the paint is showroom new, the interior is pristine. whoever owned before me must have babied the heck out of this thing.  it only had 33,000 miles on it.

well here's the deal i intend to keep this track/kick in perfect condition, like hot rodders have done with 20 or 30 year old classics.  how ever i DO want to lift it, but i want to maintain a good on road ride.  i may not mud it or boulder climb Moab in it, but i will take it light off roading....DUDE that's what they do for God's sake! (LOL)  but i just don't plan on making this a hardcore trail rig.

so the question is what's the best lift 2 or 3 inches, nothing body lift, because i want to keep it fairly stock (i.e. retain factory bumpers) so strictly suspension.  what's the best lift i can buy that will maintain a respectful amount of on road, daily driven, comfortable ride?

I would say go for a 2" Calmini suspension lift (unless you want to fab your own)

It gives you good road drivability and will still achieve the aggressive 4x4 look your looking for.

I'm gonna say the Calmini 3" lift...

... then again, I probably am a little biased :)

The Calmini 3" lift would be nice if you replaced the shocks with some softer ones cuz the shocks they sends you make the rear end feel like your rolling on stone wheels, Flintstones style  :P

From what I've heard the 2" lift has softer shocks and coils so it has a close to stock feel. And it should give you enough room under the fenders to run 29-30" tires.

It's just funny cuz some other people posted a similar comment and he got all worked up about it.

No offence Mike. I think your tracker looked sweet. (you sold it for a sammy though, did you not?)

Thats good to know.

I'm really interested in the EMU struts and front coils.

When I get some extra money to throw around I think I'm gonna invest in a set.

Your question all depends on the tires you will be running. I'm in the same type of boat for the -7. I'm wanting to lift it for running trails, not significant enough to cause a rippling effect to it's mechanicals, but enough to get 2-3 larger tire size.

I'd suggest coil spacers as a lift, then work on picking a good shock for the rear to work with the geometry of the rear axle. You may have to 'adjust' or add a spacer to the center link. Check your parking brake cable, check your bump stop locations, and you're pretty much set for the rear. Then for the front, do the same with a spacer, then configure the strut to give you the best ride. Do recall that the strut is usually too short in the droop and too long in the compression. So configure a mount to place the strut to take advantage of the travel.
I'd then add skid plates underneath, protect the gas tank better, add rocker skids up tight against the body, add front and rear tow points tied directly to the frame, add aggressive street tires, and be ready.
If you go any larger in tire size, you'll be adding unsprung weight which effects acceleration/braking, you'll be affecting overall performance of the drivetrain.
Lastly, I'd add the lower gears to the t-case to get better off-road control and capability.

All this will make your Trackick a little better at everything except acceleration, and keep it stock looking.
