Pre runner/winch bumper and Cage Pics
« on: June 01, 2004, 12:48:16 PM »
OK, it took me FOREVER but I finally gave up on the club member e-mailing me the pics, and bought me a digi camera ;D I hope that they come through good, for my first try :-/ I removed the cover on the lower part of the bumper so you could see how it was mounted. Normally there is a louvered peice that covers the lower raditor.  If you need more detail on either one, let me know, I can now run out to the shop and take picks ;D Damn I should of purchased one of these a long time ago :P

cool. Thank you very much! I already started on mine, it's more of a dual-tube type, but it should come out pretty cool. Actually I should say my friend started on mine, all I did was man the grinder after he got done using the plasma cutter and welder... LOL! So far we have the main bumper done, just need to add the winch mount and upper hoop and then get the skid plate done. My skid is going to go from the bottom of the bumper down to the front A-arm mounts where we're adding a truss, then extend back to the engine cross member. Then we are going to add another belly-pan skid under the middle of the Tracker... Once I get pics uploaded, I'll post them if anyone wants to see the progress so far...
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

Yea, a bit crowded, but when your 5'7" you dont need alot of room. The Grab handles were bought at the SFWDA Dixie run for $5.00 a pair. At the time I had a back seat, so that justifies the ones in the back :P The rest of them was a deal made by the distributor ;D

I will get some closer pics of the bumper mount when I get off work tomorrow. Originally it was held in the stock location, plus a hole drilled through the box end of the frame with a grade 8 bolt holding it there. Just before Moab this year I welded the bumper solid to the frame, adding a support to it. ( The original mouts had bent after years of use).

Gotta be up in 5.5 hrs.

No rear bumper yet ::) It's been one of those "to do" things for a couple of years now. I was pulled over on the way to work one morning by a local sheriff because he wanted to check out my ride ;D. During our chat on the side of the highway (|removethispart|@3:30 AM) he asked me why I did not have a bumper. I told him that "I thought that a bumper was a protective bar attached to the frame to keep vehicled from going under the vehicle and to protect your gas tank". He agreed with me. I then pointed out the stock cross bar at the rear of the frame. Since my tank is raised up behind the bar he agreed that it could be considered a bumper ;)

I plan on doing a small tube pre-runner style bumper w/ receiver hitch sometime this summer. I'll let you know when I get to it.

Not bad. On long drives the front support bars get a little annoying. but on the trail it's a great leg brace when your getting tossed around trying to dig up some rocks ;D. Some of the taller passengers have complained about it, but I did not build it for them ;) The bar actually helps out getting in and out of the back. It keeps passengers from grabbing onto the headrest to get in, saving my seat .
