Thought I would pass on the details of my experience with rear shocks. My vehicle is a 98 4 door Sidekick, 4X4, lifted 2" with Jeff's kit. It is a DD and occasional offroader with stock wheels and 235/75r 15s on it.
I expect my shocks to be gentle on my spine, but not leave me bouncing more than once after a speedbump.
Here are my findings thus far:
1) Rocky Road shocks (I was told they are for the Sidekick): Stiffer than a set of skateboard trucks welded onto the truck's frame. Only performed nicely when truck has 600 lbs of concrete in back. They are for sale if you like that kind of thing.
2) Monroe Matic Plus Gas Charged PN 33137 (For Mustang): Much gentler ride than #1 but does bounce a bit more than once after a good speedbump session. A bit too soft for a 4 door, methinks. Might be a good shock on a 2 door if you share similar shock expectations.
Just thought I would share..
