new shocks rub on leafs!
« on: May 18, 2004, 12:32:58 PM »
hey, i just got new longer FRONT shocks for my spoa sami, and the new  shocks are somewhat wider than the stock ones...
when flexed, they rub and are starting to get dented :'(
i already trimmed the corner of the bumpstop mount so that doesnt rub
sooo should i try and trim where it rubs now?(its the metal plate that the u-bolts go through at the top above the axle) there isnt much to trim cause the bolt is right at the edge
or do i have to get my shock mount welded in a new spot??

thanks, Andrew

bump ???
somebody has to have an idea, most guys/girls with sami's are spoa, and most upgrade to a better shock (which are normally quite a lot wider) so should i maybe just not worry about it? its denting only, hasnt cut through YET...

Normally when people go spoa they get new lower and upper shock mounts that are welded on the axle. When I set mine up I triple checked for rubbing and so on. Gues what, I now have dents in my shocks where they rub at full droop. I'm not worried about it right now though as I'll be putting in new axles soon.

hmm ok, i guess theres no other way to make them not rub, they are relatively minor dents, so maybe it'll wear a small groove into the shock casing and stay at that... has anyone ever punctured theres?

I've got two front shocks w/ some pretty good dents.  I'm told that if they are Doetsch (don't know about others) the dent would need to go in pretty far to afffect the shock . The outer skin is the oil reservoir I'm told.  I pulled one of my fronts off and it works fine. Some day I'll put new uper mounts on and flip them.   No worries mate...keepin on wheelin' ;D
