Ok i made a snorkle for my 94 tracker 16v that works great, however win i get in alot of water (above the headlights) it runns like it is taking in water. today it rained alot and when i started it it ran like crap like the filter was wet or it was sucking up water. so i checked the filter it was bone dry. i have check when it happens other times and the filter is dry then to. i was thinking the mass air flow conection was getting wet so i siliconed ti crap out of it. the silicon job my not be completely water tight but this morning i wasn't driving in water it had just rained on my trackerand the problems began after driving for a while th sputtering stopped. any suggestions?

i have an 8V and i do alot of vary high water crossings and i always put a plastic bags around the disty and coil.  use duck tape or whatever to seal them up.

Sounds like your getting water in the distributor. But I do not know how to seal it up. I Like Stu's idea on the plastic bag and duct tape.

A friend of mine siliconed his Toyota distributer... siliconed the cap onto the distributer, and siliconed the wires onto the cap. I guess it worked out pretty good.

i'm sorry i didn't tell ya'll that i have already siliconed the cap and wires with hugh temp silicon. it hase been garden hose tested and aproved. the problem wasn't the high water it was simple sitting in the parking lot at my work and it rained all night. when i went to cank it up it was sputterring and wanted to die. it acted like it had sucked up water but the filter was dry. there was no water in the engine compartment however it was alittle damp from the rain. ok i think that is everything now.

where is ur filter? my friends civic has the cold air induction kit and the pipe gets condensation inside of it..so the engine runs a little ruff for a bit sometimes

I'm looking at plumbing an airline into the distributor from the compressor for my lockers and running 5psi to keep the water out when doing crossings.

As a thought...

Did you water test the coil when you did the distributor? How about the wiring harness connections?

I had similar symptoms on my previous car... running rough when it was cold and/or wet. On that one the "cap" on 2 plugs had vibrated off & 1 spark plug wire wasn't seated down.

my snorkel connects to my radio antenna mount on the drivers side. but i do appriciate all the help ya'll have given but i found the problem it was the mass airflow sensor connection the pronges inside where all corroded. i cleaned it and it runns great.




THANKS for the input cool idea with the preasurized distributer.
