Wharton Fun
« on: September 04, 2011, 04:00:26 PM »
I need to start charging for rescue service. Came across this hapless, I mean hardy, adventurer resting on his frame in this reletivly tame looking washout. It was actually worse than the pics show. At first he asked Me and Joel to help lift and push him out, uh, no thanks. It's like 90+ degrees and 90% humidity and I'm sweating just standing there. I suggested with a person standing on the sidecare platform we could probably ride it out, but him being a new rider with a pretty new Ural, he didn't feel comfortable with that so out came the winch line again. He'd still be diggin with his 15" folding shovel otherewise.  My first motorcycle rescue.

Going up Jemima the back side. There were so many fallen trees from the last storm you'd have to chainsaw your way to the top on the normal trail, which is usually a ride across deadfall anyway. Our last resort since we couldn't back down, was to just head up the scrub oak highway. I've never spent so much time dodging fallen trees. Forest service is pretty much leaving them where they fall.   Lots of hatchette and machete work today. Joel ( silver FJ ) hacking branches.

Bentparts, thanks for a fun day out in the pines.

For anyone who is wondering why we are laughing in the Ural recovery pictures, it is because in the middle of the recovery Bentparts stops, while the bike rider and myself are holding the bike, to take pictures ;D

I don't blame you for taking them, but the timing made the Ural rider and I laugh.

By the way, Chuck wished he got to check out the stuck Ural, but he was at the AMA races today.

Those Ural's are pretty cool little bikes.  Nice old school look with the sidecar.  :)

They actually work real well too, with a skilled rider at the controls. They have a drivin side car wheel and reverse which make them sort of a ATV motorcycle.
