Anyone here use thier rig to snow plow?
« on: September 19, 2011, 09:27:07 AM »
I am wanting to slap a plow setup on the ol GV for personal use.  Has anyone here done this.  I would love to see pics and vids If you have them.  I would really like to build my own setup.  I think the snow bear and fisher setups are super nice but too expensive to justify purchase just to plow my 150 ft driveway.  Thanks in advance.

I think the fisher and snowbear both are pretty reasonable considering what you get.  I have a freind who has a fisher (I believe) and loves it. I know his is a plastic blade. If I had a 150ft driveway I would definately get one.

I believe they are worth every penny they are asking for them. I am just looking for a cheaper alternative until I have the funds for a new blade. A plastic blade (lexan I assume) would be the right setup for these small suv's.  I was thinking if possible, a guy (or gal)  could get and old plow and cut it down to size.  Do we have strong enough power steering pumps to run hydraulics?

I was thinking the same way as you in respect of the price. But then someone pointed out that the price of a good quality snowblower is more then a slowbear plow ;). Plus you get to sit in a nice warm rig well you clear the snlow away.

I recall a guy on here last year who mounted a snow plow to his two-door first gen truck and was plowing his drive.  He was up in the NE and posted a couple vids of him plowing his long drive with it.  He had some SERIOS snow both times... like more than a foot of it each time.  He braced his plow mount off of his cross member behind the oil pan and stated it worked well for him, except he lacked the weight to do much more with it.

Here is a search result with lots of threads... but i didn't see anything from earlier this year which is when I recall it being posted.:

http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/search2/

I couldn't find the one on the forum here but this is the same one I remembered.  He actually had two or maybe three vids because he kept getting pounded with snow like 12-18" at a time.  I don't know where he PUT all the snow he was pushing. I talked to him about his truck and how well it did in the snow.  It finally couldn't push the snow anymore because his rear axle wasn't locked/his truck was too light/the snow just kept coming and there was no place to move it.

Here are a few pics with the plow on. Not much snow here yet. I still have to make my light mount for the plow, everything is wired for the lights i did that last year. I wired it through a 7 pin trail connector for easy disconnection.

Looks good!  What size is that blade? Does it clear the snow at full tilt? (From the path of the tires)

It is 82" and it clear the snow from the tire path at full tilt but with such a short wheel base and being so light it gets pushed around at full tilt. There are are only three positions on the plow so i am going to drill a new hole for a small angle.
