What is best seat option for 1987 Samurai?
« on: September 21, 2011, 05:46:51 PM »
What seats will fit?  I am heading to the Pull a Part in the a.m and just wondering what year and model will fit best.  I have heard some people installing Dodge Neon or Mitsubishi seats.  Thank you for your help.

Neon is the most popular replacement.  I use some plastic seats from Summit Racing and have been happy with them.

They certainly look like they have a lot of padding.  :)

I called a local salvage yard and they have some $40 per seat not bad considering i was planning on buying some sport seats from Summit which were really nice but were $320 with shipping.

On iZook.com there are several articles on junk yard seat installs from various donors. You could get some pictures and ideas from there.

Hope that helps, Eric

I have seen several post that the Dodge Neon Seats are a good choice.

My OEM seats are just about Trashed !! And it's getting time to replace the
seat covers again,.....
SO, a few questions;
1st- are they interchange-able between Driver/ Passenger sides?
(just in case you can score 2 better passenger seats?)
2nd-  How much modifications are needed? Can you use the stock slider rails?
3rd-  Are they available in Vynil/ Leather? as cloth is OK But Is A WATER SOAKER!!

Capt, if you score 2 passenger seats you can use them my buddy did in his Sami. I don't know if u can use the stock seat rails with the neon seats. I used the neon seat rails and made em fit in the Sami by drilling new 5/8" holes. They are recline able and they sit further back so they are better for tall people like me 6'3"! They are only available in cloth only but I run mossy oak seat covers they are cheap and they repel all the water off and I opened all the drain plugs so it all drains out. This is a simple Saturday project that makes a world of difference. I recommend this mod to everyone!

OK, 1st, scored some Charcol Black Neon Seats (Year ????) for $50.00 for the set
How did you guys make them fit ?!!
           I know...I know....Cut to SIZE......Trim to FIT !!!!
2nd, checked out the pass. side first, some angle iron or 1" sq. tube for the front brkt
and just drill some holes/washers/bolts for the back...TADA.
3rd, How did you mount the driver's side ?!!!! The front looks like you can drill holes in the
cross support for the brkt tabs, but how did you finish the back? there are 2 fixtures
about 3" square on both sides and the holes are not even close.
ALSO the Neon seat & brkt sits a inch or two higher than the original seat on the
driver's side, I can make the Pass. side brkts taller to match, but I am worried about
head room to the roll bars from the targa bar to the windshield.
ANY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED.....Before I fire up the torch & Welder !!!
