Engine swap
« on: November 03, 2011, 06:48:58 PM »
I was wondering, anybody ever took a engine out of a 99-05 grand vitara and put into a sidekick? I was thinking about the 2.0L maybe for mine. No time soon, but if mine ever gives out on me. Any help greatly appreciated!

We took a 2.0 out of a Suzuki Aerio and installed it in Drone637's Race car.  A little more involved, switching oil pumps and pans, making new drivers side motor mount, turning exhaust pipe out of Cat, changing flywheel, etc.  The Aerio has more Hp than the Tracker/Vitara, it fits in and looks good.  If you want to stay with manual transmission, get a motor & COMPUTERS that had a manual, otherwise you may be running with a CEL communication failure.  The Tracker/Vitara/GV 2.0 swap is easier, but blending the computers from one to the other takes time and patience.  The motor swap is almost a drop in.

Also installed an '05 2.7 with 5 speed automatic from an XL7 in my 93 2 door.  Tight squeeze.  I also went with a dual exhaust.
93 Tracker,XL7 springs & 1" raised spring pads in front with YJ springs in back, home built bumpers rear & front (w/winch), 2" x 4" rock tubes,  ARB front & rear, converted Sami rear to IFS, 33x12.5x15  aluminum rims, roll cage, 2.7L w/5 speed auto.

Hmm. Thanks for the info. This is good to know, definitely want to stay with 5-speed. Guess I would go with the vitara swap since its the easier. Thanks a lot for the info man..
