1988 Samurai

Hello, Just found this forum after buying an 88 soft top this weekend. From SW Colorado, used to sell them new back in 87-88. Liked them then. Found a soft top w/91,000 miles, 1st owner towed it behind motorhome, 2nd owner got it & started to fix it up, had for 4 years. He just replaced this summer: new top, seat covers(cloth), tires(205/70 x 15), all fluids (radiator flush, tranny, front & rear differentials & transfer case), complete tuneup, battery & glass. Has a nice Pioneer radio/cd player & 4 speaker boom behind rear seat. He also threw in a weber wk601m carb, new in the box. Gonna have it installed this weekend along w/setting valve clearance & checking timing. Thought was a great deal for $2000. Runs like top. Only thing I need to find are rear seatbelts, can't find anyone selling them.
Can't wait to get the carb on & see what it does. Right now, if it smells a hill coming, better put it in 4th. Only other thing I might do is replace the cat convertor, has new exhaust from cat back w/no muffler, nice cackle when backing off. I'm at 6600 elevation, hope I don't have to get a jet kit. Guy that's putting the carb on has a motor rebuilding business & is good w/carbs.
Anything that I should watch out for?
Thanks, Garry

Sounds like she's in great shape. You gotta a good deal! My brother found a '87 that was showroom stock, other than a SPOA. It had been stored in a container for YEARS. Pulled it out, changed the fluids, fired it right up. Paid $2k for it also. Its MINT!
Why can't I ever find a deal like that? lol

Thanks for the reply. Mines not mint, but overall not bad for the age. Got the weber put on yesterday, adjusted the valves & set timing to about 12 from 10. Now runs like a striped arsed turtle. Seriously, helped a lot on the hills. Will se what the gas milage does asap.

Yeah, please let us know about the miliage. I am thinking about doing the weber, but I get around 25mpg with the stock carb.
