upgrades
« on: December 04, 2011, 08:51:50 PM »
i just picked up a 87 sammy and i wanted to be pointed in the best direction on more power and doing it right . so far it has 31 inch tires and a lift kit and is really solid outside. for motor it is stock same with drivetrain. im looking to make my sammy good enough for a daily driver and be able to keep up with traffic haha . what is my first move ? should i jump right into a swap or can i make the 1.3 a little more of what im looking for? i would like to switch over to 33s but for right now i know it will be really sluggish with 33s on it . any opinions or advice would be great thanks

Uh, no mention of gearing.  Get a t-case gearset and stick with the 31" tires.
35 years of Samurai ownership, and I still have my very first one. :)

Well, I have a 87 Sammy and here is what I am willing to LIVE WITH !

Original 1.3 with Weber Carb Set-up and a Mild Massaged Intake.
Stock axle ratio
4.9 gear set transfer case.

Flat ground speeds; about 60 mph...in 5th
Hills 50-55 in 4th....
On a "Long on ramp" up-hill... 3rd to 5,500 RPM..... 4th to 6,000 rpm and ???
