Swap an auto onto a 1.6
« on: December 18, 2011, 07:22:07 PM »
I have located a 4wd 3 speed tracker trans for cheap.  Looking at trail tough products, it appears that I can drop off the Tracker transfer case and run a shaft into my existing Sammy transfer case.  Anyone done this?

The output shaft of a 2wd trackick tranny and also a 4wd trackick tranny does have the same spline count as a samurai tranny output shaft.  So you can use a shortened samurai intermediate shaft to run from the trackick tranny to the samurai tcase.  The samurai intermediate shaft needs to be cut and shortened....because the trackick trannys are just a little longer than a samurai tranny.

I would think if you just drop the tcase that you won't have a proper output seal on the trans to keep dirt and water out. I have a 2wd trans if you are close enough to avoid large shipping costs

A 5 speed has a seal on the output shaft.  But an auto doesn't, from what I recall.  So that is why some vendors sell a little kit that contains a bushing and seal that you can press into the back of the tranny to seal the output shaft.

Spoke to Bret at trail tough.   He says use a 4wd, drop off the track kick transfer and use the adaptor he sells Run an intermediete into the sammy transfer. The  auto is too long to keep the Sammy transfer case where it belongs.
