2002 tracker transmission problems

I have just bought a 2002 4 door with a 2.0 and 5 speed.

It starts up and runs fine but as soon as i let go of the clutch pedal in neutral it makes a loud TOC-TOC sound behind the motor,if i press on the clutch it stops.

It will shift ok in forward gears but grinds when i try to put it in reverse

Any ideas                     Thanks
