Lock Right locker installation problem, please help
« on: January 12, 2012, 04:11:26 PM »
Hi, I bought a lockright 1532 for my manual sidekick / vitara. Took the car to the mechanic for installation, the locker does not unlock, it doesn't disengage at all.
So after testing, I made the guy open up the differential again to visually verify myself he did it correctly. Everything seemed to be just fine, he even had taken two of the 4 original washers out to let more space for disengaging. Anyway I decided to try it again, but this time using only one of the springs on each hole instead of two, guess what,, again, it didn't work. It stays locked all the time even when I clutch or manually turn one tire by hand.

I have no idea whats causing the problem, does anyone have some experience on this?
I'm desperated...  Comments? suggestions? any thoughts, please help
Thanks,
Mario

Take it to a mechanic that knows how to set it up properly.  The instructions are right there in the book that comes with the locker.  It really isn't that hard to do, as long as you follow the directions.
Sorry I don't have a better answer.  But they aren't hard to do.  I did my first one years ago (same exact model of locker), and that was the first time I had ever done any axle/differential work.  It worked perfectly, once I got it done.
And be sure and use all the parts that come with the locker.  They don't provide "extra" parts.

Thanks a lot for your answer Skyhiranger,
I was actually thinking about doing it myself, that way I'll avoid the 95 bucks the mechanic charges me for each install  ???    The problem is that the instruction book that comes with it, doesn't show the 1532 model which comes with new side gears (couplers) but the one you just reuse your existing side gears.
Do you remember which way you insert the spacers? they have a tiny opening on one side, and on the opposite side is the large opening.

I was thinking the book showed how to install the 1532 model, but it's been about 15 years since I installed it.
Try searching on the internet, there has to be pics or install instructions out there.
