newbie questions
« on: February 04, 2012, 08:42:09 PM »
I'm the proud owner of a 93 Tracker that is in prime shape. The color, well, I'll have to get used to Raseberry, LOL. Got a couple of questions if you guys have a minute. Can you chip these things, I'm guessing probably not? Where is the best place to get a removable hardtop? The only thing I have found wrong is the out side CV boot is ripped. Can that be replaced or is it just as easy to replace the whole thing, I've seen them pretty cheap. Last, where is the best place to get a tow bar? Thanks!

Welcome,

I got my tow bar at Harbor Freight, Had to modify the bumper brackets as I have a Brush Bar on my Sammy.
It made a 1700 mile trip to Northern Nevada and back to Wisconsin no problems, but for safety's sake I upgraded
the Safety Chains to 3/8" Hardened link .

My 87 Sammy was originally White with Neon Purple Fenders & Flares, would have lost all my Man Points driving
than around, Sanded it down, 3 rattle cans of Rustoleum Camo Colors, ......
                      TA DA;....."The Timber Cruiser"
And what's really neet, you can instantly fix any "Trail Rash".

No " chips " available that actually work. Lots of claims of mega HP and mileage increase but it's all BS. Stick to the standard stuff and optimize what you have. GOOD tune up parts, good air filter,  maybe a header and 2" exhaust.  If your Tracker is really clean concentrate on keeping it in good shape and protecting everything, jmo.
Got a Harbor Freight Tow Bar for my Tracker too. Welded mounts to the front of the frame and strengthened them substantially. Pay special attention to the coupler and make sure it's adjusted to fit the ball snugly. I also upgraded the safety chains and glad I did. Coupler broke on first trip, probably from not being adjusted correctly, my bad, and the only thing that kept my Tracker form free running down the highway was the stronger safety chains and the tail gate of my pickup.

Thanks bentparts and capt! This is probably what your talking about, maybe:

Should I just replace the CV boot? I saw some on flebay for $20 but I also saw this:

http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1993/geo/tracker/driveshaft_-ar-_axle/axle_assembly.html

I saw some hardtops up to almost a thousand dollars. WOW

Edit: Neon Purple! That's about right, pretty funny. I've been calling it the 'purple people eater' but my wife says its raseberry!

I'm working on a flash memory conversion that will allow the stock ECU to be reprogrammed. Its really intended to be used with other tuning parts though, theres not much to be gained from reflashing a stock vehicle.
