Which way should I have it open? Split it down the middle and have one swing left and one right?
Or Down the middle and have them drop seperately?
\I just don't wqant to open my back door fully cause of the Swing-A-way tire. I think Too much wieght on the bumper mounts with the door all the way open.
Any other Ideas?

Double hinge the top with pins.  Then you can get to it from the front seats or from the back.  You could also hinge the back panel to swing down when it's open from the top.  Wait a minute, forget I said anything.  I'm calling the patenting offices.

I already had a top opening tool box (plastic) a rear opening Alum one costed 450 bucks. So with a little freebie wood from work and 15 bucks worth of carpet.

But, Ya. I would like the box to open up both ways (top&rear)but that would be too weak for wood and too spendy out of Alum and plastic ? Seems like a good Idea but its hard to have your Cake and eat it too. Unless your my lil bro, He went back for 2nds and got 3rds ;D

Why not just make the toolbox door swing open the same way the tailgate does? Then you wouldn't have to have your door open all the way to get into it...

I thought about that but I thought the door would be too long and the wood wouldn't hold up. But I'm still thinking about that and have the door made out of Alum ;D

Your best bet might be to just use the split doors that swing to each side on the toolbox. Then you won't have to open your tailgate all the way, and it would alleviate the stress put on the wood if you had the door swing to the side on one hinge.

Thats about the only other option. Guess I'll be splittin the doors this weekend. ;D I'm going to use some type of devider and save room for a spare axle. ;D

well if you havent done it yet here is my 2c
i like how it opens now, down.  if you put some lil stops on the out side of it so that it would stay level when open it would make a nice work bench.  and you could router out cup holder too ;D  i would look into strengthing the bumper, but thats just me.  but, looks way cool!!

All these certainly add some much needed storage :)

strengthing the bumper? Thats a Calminis bumper. Its not really the bumper that flexes, its the Passenger framerails at the wheel arch, That Swing-a-way has alot of leverage on it when fully opened and with the bodylift the bumper sits above the frame AKA Leverage. Damn EVIL SEED! When will it ever stop?

Thats a good Idea. Half opens to the rear and half opens to the front. MMmmmmmmmmmmm. Time to make a new box :P

I can use some type of chain or cable on the door for stops. And some Cup holders? Make a work station out of it? Mmmm. Its a good 2c ;D

The only obvious option is to beef up the frame to withstand the leverage of the swing-away bumper. ;)
