Questions about OME spring....
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:29:49 AM »
So I'm going for a mild lift of about 2" on my 4dr kick.  I've priced 2" spacers at about $150 give or take.  I found the OME springs on lowrangeoffroad for $150 per axle and I figure if that's a much better way to go I'll spring 9pardon the pun) for them.

The only problem is I amd not sue which model numbers to get for my application because the height of the springs are mention on the chart but not the lift amount.  Given the different spring rates vs stock I'm not sure how to gauge which ones to get for a 1.5-2" lift.

Please advise.

Thanks

Jon

OME springs aren't designed to lift the vehicle per se, but rather to improve it's load carrying capacity, so you select a spring based on the intended load - all of the springs are intended to provide the same lift, approximately 30mm.

For the front you have a choice of stock +75 lbs, or stock +75~150 lbs, and for the rear, you have a choice of stock +light (upto 300lbs), or stock +medium (400~700lbs).

There's an application chart on the ARB website that explains this.

Do NOT go with heavy duty springs without a ton of gear in your kick.

I wish I'd have gone medium.

I just did the low range kit with new struts, springs, and spring spacers and rear joint.

A little pricey, but the kit is awesome and provides almost 4 inches of lift with heavy duty springs.  Figure with medium springs it's prolly be 2.5-3.

I can't stress enough about the heavy springs though.  I put 18 bags of potting soil in the back of mine and some concrete... With nearly 1k pounds in the back, the ride was pretty good.  Otherwise... It's too damned stiff. I'm using less than 2 inches of travel on the struts/shocks.
