GOOD DEAL ON SAMURAIs
« on: February 27, 2012, 04:34:32 PM »

im a complete newb to any kind of car. I wanted a samurai because im drawn to it. I dont know why, they just are baddass. My driving is going to be 90% on road with occasional offroad stuff just for fun or when i got to the beach. Im a surfer so I go to the beach often. I want the samurai to be lifted and preferably hardtop so nobody can steal my stuff. Thats basically it. I have about 8 thousand but i only want to spend between 3000 and 5000. Just wanted some advice on my first samurai. Here are some deals I have found

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

None of those would be fun to drive on the road 90% of the time.  They are well equipped wheelers.  I would'nt buy them based on the needs you describe.

Ok . I dare to be different... I like the last one (tan ) the best. As far as the set up .
I lived in Hawaii ( it's been a few years) Mil litairy...
But as i remember , the closest freeway is about 4000 miles away.
You will want a regeared rig (For the hills) you will want a descent tire (for the sand). If I remember correctly 70 miles an hour isn't to important in Hawaii so a stock ish engine should be great. A hard top would be nice though. Or at least a lock box in the back...I have found that If you have a wheeler , you will go off road , Trust me , you will need the lift. Or at the very least enjoy having it...Especially on the islands..
Test drive ,Test drive ,Test drive...
Find a stock ish one , and drive it ...Then look at modified Zukes. Drive and compair them. Find out what you like and dis like, and then make your decision...And don't be in a hurry. You live on an island . Where you gonna go....Boxcar....  Good luck..
God Bless

I agree with Boxcar.  Hawaii is different than the mainland for sure.  The transfer case gears are important if you are running a lift a bigger tires. I wouldnt pay extra for lockers and stuff that I wont use.  Also, swampers are no fun on the road. A radial all terrain rides good on the road and performs well in sand.

If I saw one of those samurais on the street constantly, Ruining a perfectly good set of offroad tires for nothing I would be Very displeased with the person driving it >.<
If you want a bad ass samurai and you're rarely going to go offroad, get something stock(ish) and put a 1.5" - 3" lift on it (if it doesn't already)
Then put a fun exhaust on it, re-gear Something for some bigger tires. And get a set of 30-31" light truck tires, nothing with too much tread if you're not going to be offroading much you don't need it.
Then put some fun paint on it like the first one in your post, military style or some black wheels or something. Whatever makes it Look bad ass without being a waste of Actual bad ass-ness

And as for your first samurai, Make sure the carb is in good order and that you get a smog cert before you buy it. Their carbs have semi-known problems and are Very complicated.

That's my two cents, hope it helps?

Man, I thought samurais were pricey here, none of those seem worth the $.... Anyway the first looks like there might be alot of ugly under that paint, looks like its been cut up (virtual lift) not a bad thing, and those long shackles aren't great. The second one has quiet a few "not working" for what he's asking. What is a reconstruction sticker on the 3rd one? Do you guys have smog checks there?
