I had asked a very similar question when I first got my 98' Sidekick. The general consensus was to leave it alone.

As I see it, adding a switch to the airbag power supply wouldnt be a bad idea to ensure an airbag doesnt go off when rock crawling. I have seen several instances where a truck will drop the front end down and impact a rock with the solidly mounted steel bumper and the driver gets a broken nose and 2 black eyes.

No there are no airbag components up there they are on the transmission hump under the console.
