winch mount
« on: March 20, 2012, 09:15:27 AM »
hey guys, i just got my recon 10,500 winch in and i got to mount it... my radiator sticks out the front of my sammy 2" due to the big motor, so basically the front of my sammy has been chopped off to accomodate this. I need some advise as to whether or not it will hold if i make a bumper for the winch. My Plans are to basically extend the fram by welding square tubing the same size as the frame out far engough to fit the winch, then weld round bar (the same size as the round bars that come out the side of the front) from the end of the bumper to the ends of the round bar that comes out the side of the fram. Im not concerned about the welds just wondering if you guys think this will be enough anchor points.

If you still have the factory round tube in the front you can slip a heavy piece of pipe into it after you drill a few holes in the frame pipe and spot weld it in place. makes it a lot safer.

Flanny... I was looking at your Zuk the other day thinking why doesn't that guy move that radiator to the rear??? At that time I was thinking about wheelin and how vulnerable the radiator is sticking out there like that.

Now comes another good reason to move it to the back....

If it were me that puppy would find a new home in the back of the Zuk with electric fans to boot....
Then the new winch has  less mounting issues and your Zuk regains that "wouldn't you like to know whats under my hood" look...

man ive thought about moving it to the rear but everyone ive talked to says it gets hot back there plus, i keep the beer cooler back there. i took the mechanical fan off the motor and i run an electric fan.. i am making a radiator shroud for the new bumper to help clean the look up and protect it.

Yeah its honna get hot but those folks aren't thinking outsife the box. If you sheild the heat from the cab area and vent it out the back then your redirecting the heat away.

Build a rear facing cabinet for the radiator to set in and blow the air out through it and out the rear.....

They make nice rear rollbar platform carriers specifically for the Samurai. It is elevated up about  level with the Sammi sides. Which would almost put your beer at an easy arms length for th "beertender" in the passengers seat.....  ;)

It's all gud Bro......  8)

Now you got me seriously thinking about the rear radiator. Would the water pump supply enough pressure. Also how would I run the lines? Do they make a kit?

Not sure about the water flow but I believe it would pump adequately. For the line I would utilize schedule 80 PVC underneath and then rubber hose for the bends.

you could use muffler tubing and maybe cpvc for the hot water !

With a lot of the rear rad setups I've seen they just build it into the tube frame or roll cage.  :)

Yeah. me too Drone. But, I was kinda thinking Flanny would be using what he has exisisting with his Sammi. So in my mind I could see comming from the water pump area with rubber and then going to plastic pipe or the flex rubber that is used in Hot Tubs. Running down along through the passenger side frame rail and popping up in the area of the gas filler tube hose. Or, sooner than that depending on Radiator placement

I could almost visulize making the tailgate stationary and placing a radiator withiin the structure itself with louvers on each side and dual spa fans, Just Sayin...  ;)

That is alot of volume and weight for the stock water pump to handle effectively, an additional electric lift pump MAY be needed.

And the basket that mounts above the sammi's rear siderails is great for holding a cooler and needed trail supplies, basically the same footprint as the roof racks.
