Neon seats mounted!
« on: March 25, 2012, 03:18:40 PM »
Wow what a bitch! All the walkthroughs on this make it seem like its the easiest thing in the world to take the bracket off but it is anything but! The grinder doesnt seem to be doing much so we got somer cutting discs but those rivots are tough! What did you guys who have switched to the neon seats used to get these brackets off?

Yeah, they aren't bad, as you found out.  Just use a grinder, or you can use a center punch and drill them out.  I ground mine.

^Just to make sure, the only thing I need from the neon seats is the brackets right? Everything else can be trashed? I will get the pass seat done tomorrow then start working on the drivers side :)

It depends on how you are doing it.  When I did my neon seats, I removed all the brackets and fastened the samurai rails to the bottom of the neon seats.

I looked at Neon seats at the salvage years. Not very impressed. Then I looked around for something better. What I found were Mini-Cooper leather seats, great seats with air bags, air pump for firm or soft ride. They fold down just like my Samuri originals. Real quality, best parts they were already out of the car, look like new and for 150 bucks I think I got a great deal, evev got the rear leathers also, not sure what to do with them.   Next comes this week end, the install, Looks simple, we will see.

I will more than likely be following these how-tos

These both look like they only ultilize the brackets and then bolt or weld them on to the sami rails

Now that I see pics, on the izook writeup, that is how I recall doing mine (it was a few years ago, when I did my last neon seats).  You have to keep the rear brackets, since that is what holds the seat back on.  Seems like I had to use self tapping screws/bolts to fasten one end of the samurai slider to the seat....might have been the rear, since it looks like the front is spaced correctly.
I have the later 2000ish+ neon seats, like in the izook writeup, which are much nicer than the earlier seats.

Yes, the front is spaced perfectly, the rears will def need some self tapping screws... how are the screws holding up? Pretty stable?

Yep, they are fine.
I am trying to remember if I ended up using bolts on one of the set of seats.  I'll have to check sometime.
