vitara vs ice, ice wins
« on: April 02, 2012, 08:19:34 PM »
well we took a drive in the woods me and the gf and after instaling a 2" lift kit the weekend before, well turned out to be a bad sight. i was following my gf grandfather witch hes about 73 year old and he was driving an old 93 4 door suzuki sidekick, he crossed a frozen creek and then we i got over it my front right wheel went trough the ice, the rear driver side wheel was over a feet high in the air, wen it stopped the rear slid about a 3 feet on one side.

wen i got her out, i find out both front wheel were out bad and the right wheel have shifted back a good 2" by eye, i drove it to the garage and he sit there t'ill the morning were i have seen the real damage

the tie rod got bent, the ball joint nut was loose, the spindle has twisted at the tie rod real bad and to top it off both cross member were the a arm bolts in got bent also. i have changed the knuckle, tie rod and then attempted of straiten the control arm, i took a 10 feet chain and tie the chain to a boom loader truck and the other end as close to the lower ball joint and then give it a bit of hell in reverse to try to strait it out a hit at a time, each hit we took a measuring tape, it was off 2" 3/4 almost touching the fender with 225/75/16 tire.

now i got it all straiten it out but still have to get it to a alignment shop. but as it sits now im just glad it dint go to the junkyard this soon lol

Ouch! Dropping in unexpected holes like that is always pretty scary!

I did this while exploring a forest in my country..

When I drove in, the back wheel would have kicked up about 2 feet before settling in the position pictured above. Luckily I was just crawling through, so no damage was done..

here its in km/h, id say about 15/20 km/h, the girlfriend grandfather made that road twice the day before and was going great, but the warm weather have changed everything, i still find it made alot of damage at that speed, my vitara is a real wuss haha

i wish i was crawling, i was in 2nd gear on low range, so im guessing a 15/20 km/h. the hole was a good 2-1/2 - 3 feet deep

I had the ground give out below me once. There was a small creek running underneath thel trail, creating a sinkhole just waiting to happen. Luckily i was carrying enough speed to get my front end across the whole and then stop before my rear end went in.

The whole time we were stuck there the ground was slowly falling away into the hole. The logs were a precautionary measure. We ended up winching the whole truck sideways to get out.  8)
