so i've done this before on my sammy and my 8v tracker....but he 16 valve motor looks intimidating.  looks like i need to take half the motor apart (alot of manifold stuff) just to get at the head cover.  Is this a pretty complex job?

and once i do get a clearing to remove the head cover, how hard is it to adjust the 16v valves?...pretty much the same as any other suzuki motor?  :-/

might not need it but it's a 1995 and i want to do some preventive maintence along with the full tune up it's getting in May.

guess not, but i'm going to break it down this weekend and do it anyway.  the actual adjusting of valves will most likely not be anything too complex....i was most worried about that labrynth of manifold stuff and how it is in the way to get to the valve cover and was hoping someone else tried it before to see if there's any shortcuts or hidden troubles ahead.

Me and A freind did ours one night. It wasn't that bad or hard. All you have to take off is the intake runner, throtle cables, spark plugs (mark them so you don't forget which goes where) and remove valve cover.
Do you have a manual?

yeah i have two, the chilton's (which i think sucks) and the Haynes which i believe is pretty good outside of NOT being a suzuki shop manual.  and i've done valve jobs on my samurais and my last 8v sidekick plenty of times so i'm comfortable doing the valve work....just all that piping and whatnot looks really intimidating at first. considering the reletive ease of accessing the valve cover on sammy motors and 8v 1.6's

I tackled the job today, and here's the procedure I used for my '98 1.6 liter:

1) Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2) Remove throttle cover (plastic cover, held in place by 3 bolts)
3) Disconnect the accelerater and A/T throttle cables- the cable ends unhook easily. You'll have to loosen the locknuts holding the cables onto a bracket.
4) Remove the air intake pipe. This is somewhat involved. You'll need to:
  - Loosen the hose clamp on the throttle body end of
    the pipe
  - Disconnect 4 hoses from the air pipe. The two that
    attach to the u-shaped metal pipe near the middle
    of the air pipe carry coolant- so be prepared for them
    to spill a bit.
  - Remove the two bolts holding the air pipe onto a
    bracket (at the bend in the air pipe).
  - Pull the air pipe off of the throttle body
  - Where the air pipe connects to the air filter box,
    unscrew the two bolts holding it down to the filter
    box. Detach the electrical connector
  - Pull the air pipe out of the air cleaner box.
  - Remove the air pipe bracket
5) Pull the PCV valve from the valve cover
6) Remove the spark plug wires
7) Remove the six bolts holding down the valve cover
(Finally!) Pull off the valve cover
