Anyone running old ford wagon wheels?
« on: April 15, 2012, 07:15:51 AM »
i have a line on some 15 x 8 ford rims off a older full size ford 4x4for real cheap. they look like this http://images1.americanlisted.com/nlarge/ford_f150_15_white_wagon_wheel_truck_rims_5_lug_set_40_finksburg_md_10725481.jpg

I am going to be running 235 75 15 mud tires and have a 2 inch coil spacer lift. i kind of wanted to avoid frame rub and don't feel 100% comfortable with running that size tire on the 5.5 inch wide rim. i don't mind a bit of trimming either if need be

any thoughts? pictures? stories?

i have heard they would fit right in if it was for a 4x4? a 2wd had a smaller center hole for the hub. i would like to know the same as you but t'ill what year it would fit? newer up to 97 will fit i have heard and i don't know anything about the center hole for those. and i also found out some older 3/4 dodge vans (rams) had 5x5.5 wheel pattern rims on a 16.5 rim. if this would bolt to our truck it would mean we could put on the military tires on our trucks :)

Mine are 15x8 which were on a Ford truck for a while although the guy claims before that he got them off an old barracuda. They work well with 31'x10.5 and give the right amount of backspacing to reduce frame rub...this may create different scrubbing on the fenders however so thats where the trimming comes in.  I did needed to use 1" wheelspacers with them to make them work but ive never heard anyone else with that issue.  I believe the pre 1995 wheels fit but after that the centre hole is too small.  Some people have had the centre hole machined out to make it fit but if its not done perfect will throw off the balance.

The Zuki's are not hub-centric wheels, you will not cause them to be out of balance by opening up the center bore. I have done many a wheel with just a grinder and sanding drum. If the center bore is opened up slightly askew(but still fits) the material is so close to the center of rotation that it is inconsequential. But be carefull when balancing them, most balancing machines are hub-centric and why I stopped that archaic practice years ago and now use ceramic balancing beads internally(not airsoft or BB's) for a ride that the machines and lead weights could only dream of.

Thanks for the  info guys. Just waiting for him to dig them out . I'm 95% sure they are off a 80s 4x4 so I think I might be good. I like that ball bearing idea too, just like the sand they use in commercial truck tires.
