****WHAT TYPE ENGINE CLEANER ****

WHATS THE BEST ROUTE TO GO ABOUT CLEANING UP THE ENGINE BAY. YEARS AGO I USED TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING SOMETHING WET THAT I SHOULDN'T , BUT AFTER ALL THE PICS. I'VE SEEN, NO WORRIES ABOUT THAT. I BOUGHT SOME ENGINE CLEANER, BUT IN FINE PRINT IT SAYS NOT TO USE ON ALLUMINUM. I SHOULD TAKE SOME PICS. OF THE OILY AREA & ASK WHAT YOU THINK IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. IT DOESN'T BURN OR LEAK TO THE GROUND ANY OIL, BUT THERE IS A BIT ON THE MOTOR. AT LAST OIL CHANGE IT WAS DOWN ABOUT A 1/4 -1/8 QRT.  THANKS .............MATTY D. 8)

I use whats called "simple green". Its a biodegradeable (not that it matters once it washes away the oil) solution that can be found at many parts stores and even grocery stores. Spray on full strength, scrub heavy deposits and hose off. Good stuff!

then i use another one that comes out clear and smells like pine trees ( dunno why it smells lol) but that makes the engine all shiney =)..i can get names if u want im just having a little trouble walking today lol

I use  Engine Gunk Engine Brite cleaner or Orange Blast cleaner. Works pretty good for me. I hate a dirty engine ;D

Just as a side note. I found a V-6 out of a 2002 GV for only 500 bucks and tranny for 600 bucks. Darn, If I had the money and the Know how.

Leave the engine running when you hose
it off, it helps to keep the distributor from
getting wet inside.

The quarter car wash here has a degreaser built in just turn the knob  ;D  just don't get any on your paint, other than that that stuff works good. ( I would only use it on something with alot of miles on it and never cleaned) the regular soap that they use is not bad either.

lol its been 5 years and nothings happended yet...  :P ::)

Knock on wood :o

I always clean mine, Top to Bottom. When I get back from wheeling and its muddy I go straight to a Pressure washer and clean the bottom really good as not to get rust holes and its easier to work on a clean rig than a dirty one ;D Besides it's easier to spot leaks, cracks, dents, or bent parts.

A friend of mine used to have a detail buisness. He got me to use ' Castrol Super Clean ' I think it is called. It is there concentrate degreaser that comes in a purple gal. jug like antifreeze. Use it straight for the engine or mix it 50-50 and put it on your tires. It works great. Just don't put stronge stuff on ' OLD ' paint. Fine for newer stuff - I use the mixed stuff to get the bugs off of the Tahoe also.
