I am new as a member on here so go easy on me.  I am starting a new project this week.  I just returned from my 4th year in a row to Mud Nationals in Texas and after watching all the people pouring tons of money into RZR builds only to snap CVs I can't just sit and watch any more.  I refused to spend 20 plus grand on something that I feel is a parts and money eater in this environment.  Enough said my plans are:

Full tube framed chassis with XP body work
Samurai axels with 4-ling front and rear
Hydraulic steering and t-case brake
Custom shocks
starting with a 1990 1.6 tracker with auto 3 speed
after initial build and test run it will get a turbo to get me inthe 150 hp range.


Hear are some questions I have:

Best place to get the performance parts for the motor rebuild?
Not expecting big gains in power here, just want a solid motor to start with.
Will switch to a 16v head and intake, upgrade pistons and camshaft

What is my best option for an auto tranny?  Is there any performance parts available for the 3pd or do I want to switch to a
Tracker 4speed or a Volvo auto?

What are my options for air lockers?

What dupgrades do you guys recomend for the axles?

Keep in mind that I am choosing the Samurai axles to keep from getting two wide.

Thais will be primarily used in the mud but and making it strong enough to jump from time to time.

I will be building my own transfer case, so that will not be the weak link.

I really appriciate all the help on this.  I will promise to keep the build process up to date on here and provide plenty of pictures and buget info as we go.

Watched that on TV, it's ridiculous what ppl had put into those things! You could buy cars at the cost of those things. I know they font have many rules but is this rig gonna be legal? I thought it was an ATV/UTV event, and also, are you building it to look like a RZR?

also since it's gonna be a real mud bogger you may want to look at ISKY Torquer Cam and maybe an MSD ignition coil. Also Pace setter headers I've heard good things from.
I have a samurai and from what I'm told the ARB Air Lockers are the best for your buck. But stick with stock axles because apparently they don't make good HD axles for the rear.
I'll probably get bashed for some of my suggestions IF anyone else ever replies, but like I said they're just suggestions, you have to make the decisions.
